ELIZABETH WHITTAKER’S GUIDED WALK ROUND HODDLESDEN AREA

Start Point:  RANKEN ARMS, HODDLESDEN

Finish Point: RANKEN ARMS, HODDLESDEN

Leave the car park and go down the hill, noticing the old  houses in the village, to the Millennium Green, created in 2,000.  Walk round the Green and into the wooded area with bridge over the stream.  Don’t miss the newly installed sun dial on the green.  The walk can be extended by going towards the ‘Olde Rosins Inn’,  if you follow the road up to the right on leaving the Green by either of the kissing gates.  The nearby cottages were involved in illicit distilling in the 18th century and home weaving first took place in the area.  A walk over the fields brings you to Waterside and then back to the village through the church yard, past the school , up Bayne Street to the Ranken. If you don’t want to go to the Rosins, keep left on leaving the Green and turn right at the T junction.  Follow the road to the church yard and then the above directions back to the Ranken.
